Top 10 Coffee Shops Downtown Toronto

1. Cafe23

Cafe23 (728 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M6J 1E8) is located in the West Queen West neighborhood of Downtown Toronto, about two blocks from Trinity Bellwoods Park. In addition to the usual coffee drinks, Cafe23 always has an amazing seasonal drink menu. Plus, their food menu includes the famous Montreal St-Viateur Bagels. Aside from exceptional coffee and service, Cafe23 has an amazing backyard patio. The main floor patio is decorated with some vintage pieces and then beautiful greenery leads up to a smaller outdoor seating area. This place is such a hidden gem!

2. Dineen Coffee Co.

Dineen Coffee Co. (140 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M5C 1X6) is located in the heart Downtown Toronto’s financial district. (They also have a second location near Leslieville). The exterior is gorgeous with a red leather seating and a pretty cool coffee bar. Plus, there is a little outdoor patio in the summer. On weekdays, the cafe is often packed with colleagues catching up over coffee or quick business meetings. That being said, it can be challenging to get an available seat sometimes.

3. Fahrenheit Coffee

Fahrenheit Coffee (529 Richmond St W, Toronto, ON M5V, Toronto, ON M5V 3Z8) has three locations in Downtown Toronto. This is a great local coffee shop. Their drinks are made with their in-house lightly roasted beans. Seating is limited at their Richmond/Portland location, but it’s a great grab and go coffee shop.

4. Found Coffee

Found Coffee ( 324 College St, Toronto, ON M5T 1S3) is located near two Downtown Toronto neighborhoods: Little Italy and Kensington Market. It is a small, aesthetically pleasing café. Breakfast is available as well (they serve up a variety of toasts and oats).

5. Milkys

Milky’s Toronto (760 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6J 1T8) located by Bathurst and Dundas serves pretty awesome craft beverages. Their seasonal menu may change from time to time, but one of my faves is the Cha Cha Cha, which is a matcha based drink with horchata and oat milk. The cafe is standing-room only so this spot ideally for grab and go coffee.

6. Neo Coffee Bar

Neo Coffee Bar (161 Frederick St Unit 100, Toronto, ON M5A 4P3) is a modern Japanese cafe located in the east end of Downtown Toronto. The cafe has a sleek look and the espresso here is always strong. In addition, Neo Coffee Bar is a great place to pick up Japanese pastries, such as a black sesame roll cake or mini genmaicha cheesecake pie.

7. Outpost Coffee

Outpost Coffee Roasters (1578 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6P 1A4) is located about a block west of Dundas West TTC Station. While technically this is a bit outside of Downtown Toronto, I still wanted to include it on this list since it’s my favorite spot for coffee beans. The cafe itself has a rustic feel with some hard seating. Service here is always stellar too!

8. Pilot Coffee

Pilot Coffee Roasters (117 Ossington Ave, Toronto, ON M6J 2Z2) has a few locations scattered throughout Downtown Toronto, including one conveniently located in busy Union Station. However, my preferred location is the one by Ossington and Queen. The coffee here is always smooth and the beans are also highly recommended.

9. The Library Specialty Coffee

The Library Specialty Coffee (281 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M5T 1G1) is a small coffee shop about a block east of the Art Gallery of Ontario. Their interior is minimal with a white subway tile walls with hanging plants. Another place for smooth coffees and especially strong (but not bitter) lattes.

10. Thor Espresso Bar

Thor Espresso Bar (35 Bathurst St, Toronto, ON M5V 2P2) is a great local cafe, located at the corner of Bathurst and Niagara. The lattes here are SO smooth! My personal fave is the salted caramel latte. They also have a great little patio off to the side.

Safety in Toronto

Toronto is overall a safe city, but like any major city, you should always be mindful. Use your common street smarts. If you are traveling to it, I do advocate for travel insurance. If applicable to you, check with your employee benefits to see if you are covered. Otherwise, I like World Nomads as it’s quite reputable and provides 24-hour assistance.
