The Basics to Beginning A Website
General guidelines on what is needed to build a site

1. A Host
A host is what will provide you with web space.
The best place for a beginner to get started is by using a free host.
I strongly recommend 50Webs or Geocities Simply sign up for an account at whichever free host you prefer.

1. Coding
Coding (basically HTML) is what creates your site. Codes are placed in an editor, which then creates your web pages. Many free hosts provide an HTML editor. You can also use Notepad, which is what I use.

3. Layout
A layout is the basic design of your web design, and includes elements such as a background, banners, and so on. Two general types of layout are "Frames" and "Iframes." The key with creating a good layout is originality.

4. Graphics
There are many programs which you can use to create graphics. Almost all computers come with MS Paint. Two common programs are Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop.

5. Resources
Further resources for a website can include a guestbook, tagboard, counter, guestmap, email forms, web rings, and tons more. For some of these services, I recommend Bravenet. If you can't find what you're looking for, search it on Google.

6. Hits
After you're website is created, of course you'd want people to visit it. The best way to get hits is by advertising. Let your friends know, join directories, join top site lists, do a link exchange with other sites, are just some of the ways you can get visitors.

7. Reminder
Don't ever, under any circumstances, steal or direct link from another site. You'll find it much more fulfilling to create your site completely by your own hard work. And remember creating a website should be something you truly enjoy to do. Never become discouraged by any hate mail or if you don't get tons of visitors right away. Doing what you love is what it should be all about to begin with.
